Chain Cast On

About

The chain cast on creates an edge that looks identical to a lifted bind off.

How To

Western Method

Knitting Needle / Crochet Hook

  1. Leaving a long enough tail to weave in, create a slip knot and place it on the crochet hook.
  2. Hold the crochet hook and a knitting needle parallel together in the left hand with the crochet hook behind the knitting needle.
  3. Take the working yarn and move it forward beneath the knitting needle, over the knitting needle and crochet hook, and behind the crochet hook to create a loop both around the knitting needle and the crochet hook.
  4. Use the tip of the crochet hook to pull the loop created through the loop already on the crochet hook. One stitch is cast on.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until one fewer than the desired number of stitches is cast on.
  6. Hold the crochet hook in the left hand and the knitting needle in the right hand. Take the knitting needle and insert it into the front loop of the crochet hook from front to back.
